F.A.Q.
Do I have to pay to be part of a project? - NO! You never have to pay to
be part of a project. However if you wish to contribute financially or through materials etc. we can talk.
Will I be paid if I'm part of a project? - No. These are for the most part volunteer/experience
positions much like bieng in a local play. Having said that if the film gets distributed and makes profit beyond it's budget,
then paid honorariums will be given out to cast and crew. If you have contributed financially to the project, once the film
has made back it's budget, your financial contribution will be paid back to you as well as an honorarium. Most likely these
projects will be Resume builders for cast and crew.
What about food and transportation? - Food will be factored into the budget of the film
if it requires crew and actors to be on location for a significant amount of time. Some transportation costs will be
covered, some not. If crew and actors are required to go to a location reasonably distant from where they live then gas money
may be provided. However car pooling will be encouraged because after all we are not rolling in Hollywood money.
I can't act and I have no real filmmaking skills but can I still help? - YES! You
may not have acting skills or know how to light a scene but other talents are just as important. If you are good at carpentry,
we may have a set that needs to be built. If you don't mind carrying things and doing odd jobs, we may need you
to help on location. If you have very good organization skills, keeping track of things while shooting is a huge help especially
to the director of the film. If you know a lot of people and can get locations and equipment for free or for very cheap you
just got a producers credit! The list goes on!
I have a script I want to make into a movie, will you do it? - That depends on a few
things. If the script is reasonable to do budget wise (think like a$1000) then it is a good candidate. If your script
is a hollywood epic then it will be impossible to do.
Do not let the budget however stifle your creativity. Write around what is available to you/us. Some of the most succesful
filmmakers have created hugely popular films on almost no budget. (Blair witch, El mariachi, Halloween etc.) Be creative.
The film may have a monetary budget of $1200 or so but factor in all the talent and crew volunteers, locations and freebies
by local people and businesses and your looking at a $250,000 movie for $1200. It's the people that make the projects
work! POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
I have a good script, will you buy it from me? - At this point in time, No. However
in the future if and when projects start making money we will be looking at paying for scripts and having bigger budgets!!!
I want to direct one of Wheat City Films Projects, will I be able to? - That depends. A
lot of people will have invested time, sweat, money and tears into these projects so the director has to be competent.
Remember that we are trying to get acclaim for the films at film festivals and also to secure a distribution deal of some
kind. The directors of these films must have experience and show competency so we don't waste our resources.
What about the soundtrack of the film? - We are open to bands who wish to have a song/songs
put on a film soundtrack. However we can't pay for the rights to have them in the movie. The bands must give us permission
to use the music on a royalty free basis. Again an honorarium will be given if the project is successful.
Are the movies shot on film or on video? - Again due to budget constraints, film for
us is not an option. It is very expensive to shoot on film. A movie shot on a budget of $2000 would cost $20,000 if shot
on film due to the cost of the film and then the costs of developing and processing as well as tranfers etc. We will shoot
on high quality digital video that can be easily made to look like film in post production.
